Students and CBD

Marijuana, the THC-containing flower of the cannabis plant, is often stigmatized as a drug that makes people lazy. However, other cannabinoids that come from the same plant may help you become an achiever. CBD hemp oil contains non-psychoactive substances that affect the human endocannabinoid system, improving mental function in a way that may enhance academic performance.

1. CBD May Help Students Sleep

Sleep is essential for mental health. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke says that it’s as important as food and water for survival.

Many children, however, don’t get enough sleep. Studies show that getting inadequate amounts and quality of shuteye can interfere with students’ ability to learn. Sleep quantity and quality are directly related to academic functioning.

If your student deals with insomnia, CBD oil may help. Research on rodents and humans has found that the cannabinoid can facilitate sleep, especially when the sleeplessness is caused by anxiety.

2. CBD Can Improve Anxiety

Many behaviors that are related to poor academic performance stem from anxiety. Stress levels do more than simply influence a student’s grades. Anxiety can make students seem indifferent to studying, lack interest in learning and neglect to complete assignments to their capabilities, according to experts.

CBD oil has been found to reduce anxiety symptoms. This may break down the boundaries that prevent many students from giving academics their best effort. It can even be used when students become nervous before a presentation or have social anxiety that prevents them from being motivated to go to school every day.

3. CBD Can Relieve Pain

Many students are involved in a number of extracurricular activities that result in muscle soreness. Maybe your high-schooler is on the track team. Perhaps your college-aged child trains for marathons regularly.

The physical pain that can result from exercising and playing sports may be soothed by CBD. The compound has been tested for its effects on neuropathic, cancer-related and chronic pain. It can even minimize pain from migraines, inflammation and menstrual cramps. Eliminating this type of physical pain can help students focus in class and while they study.

4. CBD Could Help Students Focus

Students are often required to sit still for a long time. It’s unnatural for young children to hold their attention for an extended period as is required in traditional schools. Many adults find that they never learn the art of concentration as they grow up. Distractions are everywhere, and some people have conditions, such as ADHD, that further interfere with their attention span

Cannabinoids have been found to help people focus. They can even reduce hyperactivity in children and adults with ADHD. Although many studies have looked at the effects of THC instead of CBD alone on attention, the data shows promise for the use of CBD oil in improving concentration.

5. CBD May Improve Overall Mental Health

Students are constantly being evaluated. They may have high expectations set on them by their parents and teachers. Plus, many students have a heavy workload. In fact, Psychology Today claims that college students are experiencing a mental health crisis.

CBD has been shown to help alleviate symptoms associated with post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. In mice, it has also been shown to exhibit effects similar to those achieved by taking antidepressants.

Some people may be hesitant to introduce CBD to students because young people are already exposed to a wide range of potentially addictive drugs. However, a World Health Organization report states that CBD hemp oil doesn’t cause physical or psychological dependency. Cannabinoids may be safer than some medications that are used to treat ADHD or chronic pain. CBD is certainly less harmful than underage drinking, which has become a public health concern across college campuses.
